Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City exit a ‘sad day’ – Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola has lauded Kevin De Bruyne as one of the greatest midfielders to ever play in England and added the midfielder’s departure from Manchester City is a ‘sad day’ for the club.
The 33-year-old announced on Friday that he will be leaving City at the end of the season, 10 years after he signed for the club from Wolfsburg.
De Bruyne has lifted 16 trophies during his time at the Etihad Stadium, including six Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups, two Community Shields and a Champions League.
“Sad day. Happy day for the pleasure I live with him. What he gives all of us, his humanity and influence in our success wouldn’t be possible without him. A part of us is leaving,” Guardiola told a news conference on Friday.
“He’s one of the greatest in the Premier League, midfielders ever in this country. Always have to be respectful for players from Maine Road and last 20, 30 years. But come on, no doubt he’s one of the greatest for sure.
“The doors are open for the rest of his life. Whatever he wants to do. The impact of some players transcends the pitch. He is one of them.”
